Event details

Join us on Monday 5th June, at 1pm in the Physics Seminar Room (46/5081), for the QLM weekly seminar. This week we’re delighted to be hosting Jacob Viner, who will be giving his MPhys year of experimental research presentation. Jacob has spent the last academic year working in the Nanomaterials Group and his talk is titled “Rayleigh Scattering from Individual Suspended Extreme Nanowires”. -- Abstract This presentation will discuss some of the properties of the smallest possible diameter nanowires and how they can be produced using carbon nanotubes as a template. It will discuss the emerging technique of Rayleigh scattering spectroscopy and how it can be used in conjunction with TEM to link the structure with optical properties of these nanowires. This involves making measurements on individual nanowires, encased in carbon nanotubes. -- As always, tea, coffee and cake will be provided. We look forward to seeing you there! --- QLM Committee QLM Website: http://www.qlm.soton.ac.uk QLM Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/405150546265372/?fref=tsQLM Twitter: https://twitter.com/qlmsoton
